Trade panel approves five-year duties on China solar products

reuters -- The United States gave final approval on Wednesday to duties on billions of dollars of solar-energy products from China for the next five years, protecting U.S. producers against lower-priced imports and raising fears of Chinese retaliation.

The U.S. International Trade Commission voted 6-0 in favor of double- and triple-digit duties in a case filed last year by SolarWorld Industries America.

Beijing has protested the case each step of the way, calling it a protectionist move that threatens the future of solar energy by driving up costs for consumers.

SolarWorld, the largest U.S. solar-panel manufacturer, accused Chinese competitors such as Suntech Power Holdings of selling solar cells and panels in the United States at unfairly low prices and receiving government subsidies.

No government subsidies in the production of any product! Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. The price of fuel at the pump is too high! XII/XXII/MMXII!

Maybe it will help stop our getting all the chinese junk coming accross our shores... especially being pushed by Walmart. If Walmart goes under are they too big to fail??? The US gave millions of taxdollars to US Solar manufacturers in the name of GREEN... China gave billions to their Solar manufacturers in the name of GREEN... So SolarWorld (Germany owned) is not selling higher priced Solar panels, because everyone in the US is buying the Solar panels from China, to put on their roof tops in the name of GREEN... Wonder the TreeHuggers are saying about this??? Looks like the bottom line of going GREEN and saving the world, is not about cleaner air... It's more about jobs and greed...
